De ervaren Fransman stapte in 2017 over naar de MotoGP nadat hij twee Moto2-titels had gewonnen en is sinds het begin een van de snelste coureurs geweest. Hij wachtte echter lang op zijn eerste overwinning in de hoogste categorie en kreeg die vorig jaar eindelijk. Dit jaar zal hij echter moeten wennen aan de verandering als hij de Ducati-motorfiets inruilt voor de Honda van team LCR.
