Hij scoorde een podiumplaats en zijn debuut pole position leverde hem een contractverlenging op bij VR46. Vorig jaar zette de Italiaan nog een stap - hij won drie races en eindigde als derde algemeen. Hij liet duidelijk zien dat hij een ster van de toekomst is.
