Le Grand Prix du Japon a été fortement perturbé par la pluie. Les pilotes se sont dirigés vers les stands peu après le départ pour changer de pneus pluie et lorsque la pluie s'est intensifiée, la course a été arrêtée après douze tours. Après quelques dizaines de minutes, les pilotes sont revenus sur la piste, mais en raison de la pluie persistante, le Grand Prix a été définitivement abandonné peu de temps après.
